MEMORIZE OR SKILL

A great client today did a stall park for the first time ever, and I did not say a word. They just simply went into the parking lot, found a spot and reversed in beside the car. They had never tried this ever in their entire lifetime. They did two perfect reverse stall parks beside cars.

WHY WERE THEY ABLE TO DO THIS WITH ZERO TRAINING SPECIFIC TO PARKING?

ANSWER: They knew how to control the car in reverse gear.

Another client struggled with parking and came back the next class after practising with a friend who gave them a formula which really helped them do the park! Sadly I was both happy and sad to hear this. Happy because they had both a practise person and that person had helped them. All support when learning to drive is great!

But my sadness for missing the real understanding and skills to truly control the back of the car without needing a formula or memorization.

After really knowing how to control the back end of a car I then present some formula parking adding more perspectives to the skill understanding, with clients knowing that its not required to safely control when in reverse. More perspectives to an already acquired core skill boosts that skill and makes it stronger..

Yes learning a formula first may eventually get a driver to knowing how to control a car in reverse, but it often robs them of discovering this aha moment of “I CAN DRIVE BACKWARDS!”

Come learn how to really drive!
