Many drivers believe they are above-average, but confidence does not always equal competence. The illusion of safety comes from routine—when nothing has gone wrong for a long time, drivers assume they are safe, when in reality, they may just have been lucky.
Great drivers constantly evaluate their own skills, seek feedback, and challenge their assumptions. If you haven’t worked on improving in years, you might be stagnating rather than progressing.
A good benchmark is to count the number of close calls you have had in the last year. Can’t recall any? Does that mean none occurred? Or that you erased them from your memory?
Are you actively improving, or just assuming you’re already good enough?
